Roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina are of varying quality, with some areas offering paved highways and others offering dirt tracks with the threat of landmines (usually clearly marked). There has been a regeneration program in operation for a number of years and road facilities are constantly improving. Driving at night is not recommended. Regeneration programs have lead to public transport being reintroduced nationwide, with buses covering most of the country and a tram system in Sarajevo in operation. Taxis are also available nationwide. Railway services were left severely depleted after the conflict of the early 90s, and the network is not yet fully recovered. As such, rail links can tend to be limited and slow running. Even so, there are links to most major towns and cities, as well as to neighbouring countries.
